GRAMMY® nominated for “Best Electronic/Dance Album” at the 53rd annual GRAMMY® Awards

Released in February 2010 under the Nettwerk label with over two hours of music on two black CDs, "These Hopeful Machines" brings together many pieces of BT's past work. By way of new sounds and new technology, BT introduces us to the future of pop and electronic music. Early release singles such as 'Rose of Jericho' introduced the world to the Sonifi app, that allowed the world to mix their own music their way - even as young as his five year old daughter Kaia.

There is something for everyone on this album. Powerful and moving vocals about hope and love by BT as well as: Jes Brieden (JES) on "Every Other Way" and "The Light in Things", Kirsty Hawkshaw "A Million Stars" and Rob Dickinson in "Always" and "The Unbreakable."

BT wanted to bring listeners back to the album experience. He took a gamble by initially releasing "These Hopeful Machines" as two, nearly hour long individual tracks (Disc 1 and Disc 2) on Amazon and iTunes.

ELECTRONIC MUSICIAN, BT, EARNS GRAMMY® NOMINATION FOR ‘BEST ELECTRONIC/DANCE ALBUM’ for THESE HOPEFUL MACHINES (NETTWERK/BLACK HOLE)

NEW YORK, NY (December 6th, 2010) – BT earns a GRAMMY® nomination for “Best Electronic/Dance Album” at the 53rd annual GRAMMY® Awards to take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA, on February 13th, 2011, for his sixth studio album, THESE HOPEFUL MACHINES (Nettwerk/Black Hole). Long regarded within the entertainment industry as one of the forefathers of modern electronic music and a creator of the music genre known as ‘trance,’ BT is as recognized for proprietary technologies, software and production techniques as he is for selling-out festivals where thousands of electronic music fans flock to exult in his music. BT has worked with industry luminaries such as: Peter Gabriel, David Bowie, Madonna, Sting, Seal, Britney Spears, Armin van Buuren, Tiësto, and innumerable others.

A classically trained musician who considers Igor Stravinsky, Claude Debussy and Sergei Rachmaninoff as influences, BT attended the Berklee College of Music at the age of 15 and has scored (or had his music appear in) major motion pictures, including: The Sorcerer’s Apprentice; Pixar Presents Cars: Tokyo Mater; Stealth; Monster; Blade II; The Fast And The Furious, Tombraider; Go, and many more. The current single from THESE HOPEFUL MACHINES is “THE EMERGENCY,” a song which has hit the #1 chart position on satellite radio for over eight weeks and is now quickly transitioning to mainstream pop radio.

Born Brian Transeau in Rockville, Maryland, BT’s aptitude for music and mathematical theory evidenced themselves at an early age. “Music is applied mathematics,” BT said. “When examining my creative process, it makes perfect sense as to why I am a forced technologist,” he explains. ”I frequently face the fact that the tools I need to compose music simply don't exist. It is like being an architect without bricks or mortar. I routinely create my own bricks and connective tissue as the diving-off point to the compositional process.” The drive to actualize the tools BT envisions has led to his evolution as one of the most cutting-edge programmers and technologists in music today. He has expanded this reach into a visionary software venture, Sonik Architects. On December 2nd, leading software company, iZotope Inc., announced the acquisition of Sonik Architects. The first releases from the newly formed iZotope/BT partnership will include BT’s proprietary Stutter Edit® and Break TweakerTM software and SonifiTM iPhone application.

Love 'em or hate 'em the Grammy's are a big part of American culture. The Electronic/Dance category has always been kind of nebulous, often including what most would consider 'mainstream pop'.

"Recently, fans have been asking him to consider releasing the digital album as 12 individual tracks. Says BT, "My fans spoke and I'm listening. I am deeply excited to offer this in both ways. I am always looking to engage my audience in a way that suits them."" -Danielle Romeo

"After a lengthy four-year hiatus, BT has returned to his roots with the release of These Hopeful Machines, which embraces his dance music side once more, but also sees the producer push his sound out to new directions on what may be considered his magnum opus." -Alex and Ryan

"Even while the synthesizers pop and pulsate on BT's latest studio disc, a couple of musical elements also beat prominently above the surface. These Hopeful Machines, the Maryland artist's sixth album, towers as the most melodic and confidently vocal CD of his 15-year recording career." - Mario Tarradell
