ELECTRONIC MUSICIAN, BT, ANNOUNCES UNPRECEDENTED OPEN-SOURCED CGI/GREEN SCREEN VIDEO CONTEST FOR DIRECTOR OF HIS NEXT MUSIC VIDEO

NEW YORK, NY (March 21st, 2011) – GRAMMY® nominated electronic musician and composer BT announces an unprecedented contest to find the next visuals director of his official music video by open-sourcing from March 21st extended through May 18th, 2011. Together with BLACK HOLE RECORDINGS, BT will make attainable a before unheard of opportunity to be hired to direct BT’s next music video. Entries are open-to-the-public and anyone can enter, from the youngest amateur graphics designer to the seasoned professional. Inspired by the Green Screen technology implemented by director BOBBY MONTERO who directed BT’s video for “Suddenly” from the GRAMMY® nominated album by BT, THESE HOPEFUL MACHINES (Nettwerk/Black Hole), BT is now making available the same Green Screen template on which contestants can design their own visuals and CGI.
Said BT, “I think this is a truly exciting opportunity to crowd source iterations on an already amazing video directed by Bobby Montero. This is an opportunity for visual artists to flex their abilities and get discovered in the same way remix contests have done for aspiring electronic musical talent.”
The BT VIDEO CONTEST will begin on March 21st, 2011 and all contestants are encouraged to upload their entries to YouTube. The most creative entries will be aggregated and linked to from the official BT website, www.BTmusic.com, whereby the public will be able to vote on their favorites. The deadline for entries is May 18th, 2011 , and a winner will be selected and announced on www.BTmusic.com by May 24th, 2011. Refer to www.BTmusic.com for additional contest rules. The winner will then be hired to direct BT’s next music video from the album THESE HOPEFUL MACHINES.
BT was nominated for “Best Electronic/Dance Album” at the 53rd annual GRAMMY® Awards for his sixth studio album, THESE HOPEFUL MACHINES, and he finds inspiration in everyday life. Long regarded within the entertainment industry as one of the forefathers of modern electronic music and a creator of the music genre known as ‘trance,’ BT is as recognized for proprietary technologies, software and production techniques as he is for selling-out festivals where thousands of electronic music fans flock to exult in his music. BT has worked with industry luminaries such as: PETER GABRIEL, DAVID BOWIE, MADONNA, STING, SEAL, BRITNEY SPEARS, ARMIN VAN BUUREN, TIËSTO, and innumerable others.
A classically trained musician who considers Igor Stravinsky, Claude Debussy and Sergei Rachmaninoff as influences, BT attended the Berklee College of Music at the age of 15 and has scored (or had his music appear in) major motion pictures including: The Sorcerer’s Apprentice; Pixar Presents Cars: Tokyo Mater; Stealth; Monster; Blade II; The Fast And The Furious, Tombraider; Go, and many more. The single from THESE HOPEFUL MACHINES titled “The Emergency” was a hit with satellite radio for over eight weeks and hit the #1 chart position while transitioning to mainstream pop radio.
Born Brian Transeau in Rockville, Maryland, BT’s aptitude for music and mathematical theory evidenced themselves at an early age. “Music is applied mathematics,” BT said. “When examining my creative process, it makes perfect sense as to why I am a forced technologist,” he explains. ”I frequently face the fact that the tools I need to compose music simply don't exist. It is like being an architect without bricks or mortar. I routinely create my own bricks and connective tissue as the diving-off point to the compositional process.” The drive to actualize the tools BT envisions has led to his evolution as one of the most cutting-edge programmers and technologists in music today. He has expanded this reach into a visionary software venture, Sonik Architects. In December of 2010, leading software company, iZotope Inc., acquired Sonik Architects. The first releases from the newly formed iZotope/BT partnership include BT’s proprietary Stutter Edit® and Break TweakerTM software and SonifiTM iPhone applications.
